Jigsaws are increasingly being used for cutting harder materials, metal in particular. Obviously, though, cutting metal requires not only the correct blade, but a jigsaw with the power needed to perform the cut accurately and safely.

The use of a large circular saw in a saw mill is said to have been invented in 1813 by Tabitha Babbitt, a Shaker inventor, after she noted the inefficiency of the traditional saw pits used by the sawyers in her community and sought an improvement.[6] This claim is now mostly discredited.[7][8] OK, I am looking for a best answer here. Yes, you can cut metal with a hand held skill saw. You want a fine carbine tooth blade if posible and a regular saw blade will not work. Use atleast a 24 tooth but a 40 tooth is best. That is for a 7 1/4" saw.

Best Answer: Can you go straight from cutting wood to cutting metal with the same blade? No, you must buy a blade for cutting metal. When you do this go slow and take your time making sure you are not going to slow and over heating the blade or metal you are cutting.

To all intensive purposes, this will replace almost any saw that you may have, or ones that you had maybe planned on buying. I bought the DeWalt 872 and it is just an amazing machine. This saw will just about get through anything that you put in front of it.

When working in dim work spaces the DCS373L2 includes a bright LED light with a 20-second delay. Since making precise cuts in metal an be tricky because of hard to see sigh lines; this saw includes DeWalt's proprietary Multi-Coated SIGHT-LINE window that provides maximum abrasion resistance for a clear view of the cut. A high strength steel shoe ensures durability and also offers resistance against chip build-up and there is a lightweight magnesium upper guard. Click here to read our guide to why pendulum action in a jigsaw is so important. However, Bosch have re-imagined this for the GST25 M due to the type of cuts it's designed to perform. It only has 2 stages of pendulum action; on or off. This insures you'll always have the option to work fast and with great control while you cut as the pendulum action has been mechanically optimised for metal.

We have worked very closely with Kinkelder and Roentgen to continue developing circular saw blades and band saw blades to increase production rates without compromising on blade life and if we must say so ourselves very successfully.

They make a circular type saw for cutting steel and of course they make jig saw blades for cutting steel. As previous posters stated if a little more info was available I could be more specific. If using a jig saw I would go slow and if possible use a variable speed on lowest speed possible. I have never cut steel with either so I am telling you how I would start. Personally I would find a machine shop that had a CNC plasma cutter. You would be surprised how reasonable they are price wise. Good luck. Likes: Having tool-free miter adjustment and an easy-to-read miter gauge may not seem like such a big deal. But if you do a lot of angle cutting, then suddenly these are crucial features. The Ridgid excels there and has a smart deflector design that keeps the sparks at the back of the machine where they belong. Bosch are particularly proud of the latest addition to their stable of jigsaws. Click here to watch our overview of Bosch's jigsaw offerings. OK, I am looking for a best answer here. Yes, you can cut metal with a hand held skill saw. You want a fine carbine tooth blade if posible and a regular saw blade will not work. Use atleast a 24 tooth but a 40 tooth is best. That is for a 7 1/4" saw. But to do so, it takes patience. You cannot cut it like wood. It takes me about ,,, I'd say 3 or 4 minutes to slowly cut a piece of 2" x 2" x 1/4" angle iron. If you force it or bind it at all, you with break the teeth and I am here to tell you, 40 pieces of tungsten flying off a saw all in a split second is not a good thing to be around. It's dang near like a grenade going off. I have had to dig metal out of my arms that were probably a quarter inch deep. You can do it, but if you are not pretty much an expert with a skill saw, I suggest not doing it. If you do, wear welding gloves, long sleve shirt'ssss, saftey glasses and a face shield. This is really something best left to the people that know what they are doing and there isn't even a lot of good carpenters that can do it. I am not trying to put myself on a pedestal or anything. I just have a nack for doing what cann't be done. For the purposes of this guide, however, we'll be focusing on metal and the fastest way to cut it using a jigsaw. The aim of this guide is to help you decided whether a metal cutting jigsaw is ideal for you. See below for our video demo.

Roentgen have developed the Master band saw blade, this blade has a triple chip tooth geometry which is widely recognised as the ideal blade tooth form for production sawing and is currently used at stainless steel stockholders all over the UK.
