Like a woodworkers miter saw, the metal chop saw's blade lowers through material resting on a stationary base. However, manufacturers design metal chop saws specifically to withstand the heat, sparks and flying metal that results from cutting large metal stock. Notably, woodworking miter saw manufacturers do not recommend that workers attach metal cut-off blades to woodworking equipment. In operation and appearance, metal chop saws resemble their woodworking counterparts. To use a metal chop saw, the metalworker places metal material on the base beneath the blade, activates the blade and lowers the blade through the material.

Roentgen have developed the Master band saw blade, this blade has a triple chip tooth geometry which is widely recognised as the ideal blade tooth form for production sawing and is currently used at stainless steel stockholders all over the UK. If you have a carbide metal cutting blade you can cut some wood, but don't expect to run a woodworking shop with it, they are okay, I cut a lot of PVC pipe with mine here and they do good there, and really good with metal, not many sparks, but watch your eyes, lots of metal shards flying around and they are hot, I have a Milwaukee 6 inch battery metal cutting saw that I have cut through 3/8 inch stock in the shop and really nice clean cuts..

The worm-drive portable circular saw was invented in 1923 by Edmond Michel. In 1924 Michel formed a partnership with Joseph Sullivan, and together they started the Michel Electric Handsaw Company, with the sole purpose of manufacturing and marketing the saw invented by Michel. The company later renamed itself Skilsaw Inc., Portable circular saws are often still called Skilsaws or Skil saws. Its successor is still sold by Skil as the model 77. To get around the Skil patents, Art Emmons of Porter-Cable invented the direct-drive sidewinder saw in 1928. Recently smaller cordless circular saws with rechargeable batteries have become popular.

I was cutting some stainless steel rod today for a built-in closet and the hacksaw was taking too long, so I tried a jig saw. The blade hit the inside of the tube a couple times. I ended up bending on and breaking one before I went back to using the hacksaw. Later, I found out that we had a metal cut off blade for the mitre saw. Installed that and cut thru it like butter! I wouldn't be too tempted to use a circular saw though for safety reasons as well as because the sparks will likely be flying up towards you.

I have about 20' worth of 2x4x3/16"? aluminum tube that was picked (with permission) from a scrap dumpster and I'd like to make a few ""practice projects" from it. Guy that worked for the company said it was 6061. Rotary tools are usually hand held machines, and they are able to cut a wide range of materials while using a cut-off wheel accessory. If you use a fiberglass reinforced cutting wheel, you will be able to sufficiently cut through hardened steel. This is a way for you to be able to control the tool with more ease since these type of tools are very light and smaller.

Don't Settle for Less Than the Best Whenever It Comes to circular saw metal cutting.

I originally purchased this saw to take 2" off the height of a steel entry door, in order to avoid the hassle of having to custom order to match the existing size. The project was a success and the saw made the alteration as simple as if it were a hollow wooden door! Often, i don't know how much i'm actually going to use a tool until after i buy it. This was one of those times. Since then, I have used this saw to cut all types of steel from angle iron to conduit to sheet metal to steel studs and so on. While this saw might not find it's way onto every job i work, it has quickly become a regular in my rotation. I can't stress enough how great it is to be able to cut steel and have clean edges without the need to grind or file afterward! This saw is a real time saver! Khudos to Dewalt for adding the sight line window to allow for easy, safe viewing while cutting. The high strength steel shoe is a nice feature, as well, and has done it's job holding up in battle. With the 5 Ah batteries there is plenty of power behind the cuts and enough juice to keep you going all day long! And I'm glad Dewalt still packages it up into the nice, sturdy hard plastic case that we all know and love. It makes any tool feel like a specialty tool! I'm very pleased with this purchase! Some days, i get bored and cut metal just because it that easy!

Yes you can, I agree with all of the above. But it throws a lot of sharp chips and sparks. So beware. There is a carbon saw that is designed for metal...wears as it cuts. will last 12 feet in 14ga sheet metal.

I have used it with the included blade and was able to make some great quality cuts through 1/8" steel diamond plate, 3/16" sheet, and 3/8" flat stock with ease. One huge advantage that these types of saws have over abrasives is that the work piece is cool to the touch immediately after it has been cut, and there is no burr on the metal, which saves time and frustration. The kit includes the saw, two 5.0 Amp Hour batteries, a charger, and the case. The 5.0 batteries are a huge plus for this type of saw because of how much power it eats through, but I have been able to get quite a few cuts out of each battery, and by the time I had ran one battery out, the other is done charging so it works out perfectly. The case and charger are fairly self-explanatory, both are the same as any other that DeWALT sells, very high quality. Another great feature of the saw is the visibility, with the LED light and the clear plastic viewing window, it is very easy to see what exactly it is that you are cutting.

If you decide to use a drill to accomplish the task, it is prudent to know that drills are most of the time used with bits, rather than blades. Of course, in the case of hole saws, their teeth are very similar to other saw blades. The thicker and the coarser teeth have the ability to cut through softer material such as wood, and when you use the finer teeth, you will be able to cut through finer materials as well as heavy metals. Whenever you are trying to achieve the best cutting results, it is important to always drill at a very slow speed to accomplish the proper cutting that you are requiring.
