This would probably be my least favorite choice when it comes to a metal cutting saw. It is basically just a hacksaw on steroids for want of a better description. Don't get me wrong these are high quality saws, but when used on metal they are a pretty rough weapon of choice. I have about 20' worth of 2x4x3/16"? aluminum tube that was picked (with permission) from a scrap dumpster and I'd like to make a few ""practice projects" from it. Guy that worked for the company said it was 6061.

In my post I was not suggesting a regular circular saw. I am not sure what the difference is between the link and a regular circular saw. Obviously a lot more shrouding around the blade. I have cut a lot of aluminum soffit using a regular circular saw with the blade in backwards but I would not try it on steel.

As you can see there are a few choices. The chop saw and the circular saw will be familiar to most people. If you already own a good circular saw, then this will be the cheapest option for most people. All you will need to do is buy a blade that cuts metal and you have a ready made power saw in your hand. BTW dremils are great on hard steel, and for small thin cuts. an angle grinder with a thin disc will cut pretty well but will the sparks start a fire? It can also catch and want to take the tool right out of your hands if not careful. even the dremil disks can go flying when they shatter , and they make sparks as well. Worm-drive circular saw, standard cheap carbide combination blade (about $6 - $7) sold out of a box at lumberyards, about 18-25 teeth. No lube. Plywood blades tend to gum up and overheat too easily, aggressive blades with less teeth tend to loose teeth.

If you have a carbide metal cutting blade you can cut some wood, but don't expect to run a woodworking shop with it, they are okay, I cut a lot of PVC pipe with mine here and they do good there, and really good with metal, not many sparks, but watch your eyes, lots of metal shards flying around and they are hot, I have a Milwaukee 6 inch battery metal cutting saw that I have cut through 3/8 inch stock in the shop and really nice clean cuts..
