Worm-drive circular saw, standard cheap carbide combination blade (about $6 - $7) sold out of a box at lumberyards, about 18-25 teeth. No lube. Plywood blades tend to gum up and overheat too easily, aggressive blades with less teeth tend to loose teeth.

I originally purchased this saw to take 2" off the height of a steel entry door, in order to avoid the hassle of having to custom order to match the existing size. The project was a success and the saw made the alteration as simple as if it were a hollow wooden door! Often, i don't know how much i'm actually going to use a tool until after i buy it. This was one of those times. Since then, I have used this saw to cut all types of steel from angle iron to conduit to sheet metal to steel studs and so on. While this saw might not find it's way onto every job i work, it has quickly become a regular in my rotation. I can't stress enough how great it is to be able to cut steel and have clean edges without the need to grind or file afterward! This saw is a real time saver! Khudos to Dewalt for adding the sight line window to allow for easy, safe viewing while cutting. The high strength steel shoe is a nice feature, as well, and has done it's job holding up in battle. With the 5 Ah batteries there is plenty of power behind the cuts and enough juice to keep you going all day long! And I'm glad Dewalt still packages it up into the nice, sturdy hard plastic case that we all know and love. It makes any tool feel like a specialty tool! I'm very pleased with this purchase! Some days, i get bored and cut metal just because it that easy!

Can I Use Circular Saw To Cut Metal

KR Saws is the leading saw blade product and technical service provider to the UK metal and steel cutting industry and is a joint venture between World-leading, Netherlands based, Circular Saw Blade specialist Kinkelder BV and Roentgen GmbH & Co, the renowned German manufacturer of Band Saw Blades. The new DeWalt DCS373 20V MAX Lithium Ion Metal Cutting Circular Saw delivers speed and power to cleanly cut a variety of metallic construction materials. The motor in the DCS373 delivers 460 Max Watts Out (MWO) and 3,700 revolutions per minute (RPM), making this saw ideal for electricians, mechanical contractors and professional metal workers. Equipped with a 5-1/2 inch, 30 tooth carbide blade and maximum cutting depth of 1-11/16 inches; this saw is set up to make quick, clean cuts in ferrous materials such as uni-strut, threaded rod, conduit, cold rolled pipe, metal plate and pan decking, in one pass.

A good jigsaw (my favorite is the Milwaukee with a nice speed control) and you can follow any line, even a straight rip cut. The higher end jig saws have very low vibrations and tend to make very controlable cuts. A straight rip through a 2x4 is very doable. One issue, the more expensive jig saws tend to have 1.25" stroke, so you either cut both sides at once (and jig saws are bad at this because blades flex) or you get a very short blade (or cut down one you have).

A common claim is for a little-known sailmaker named Samuel Miller of Southampton, England who obtained a patent in 1777 for a saw windmill.[2] However the specification for this only mentions the form of the saw incidentally, probably indicating that it was not his invention.

But looking a little more closely at the metal cutting circular saws might give us some insight about why Milwaukee, Makita, and others haven't produced 7-1/4-inch metal cutting blades but instead have created a new tool. Let me draw your attention to the saw's lower RPMs, smaller blade, and overall design.

Why Accept Something Ineffective? The Best is What You Have to Have On the Subject of cutting metal sheet.

When working in dim work spaces the DCS373L2 includes a bright LED light with a 20-second delay. Since making precise cuts in metal an be tricky because of hard to see sigh lines; this saw includes DeWalt's proprietary Multi-Coated SIGHT-LINE window that provides maximum abrasion resistance for a clear view of the cut. A high strength steel shoe ensures durability and also offers resistance against chip build-up and there is a lightweight magnesium upper guard. We like that other creature comforts such as rubber over molded grip handles and easy to adjust depth and bevel leavers are standard.

They make a circular type saw for cutting steel and of course they make jig saw blades for cutting steel. As previous posters stated if a little more info was available I could be more specific. If using a jig saw I would go slow and if possible use a variable speed on lowest speed possible. I have never cut steel with either so I am telling you how I would start. Personally I would find a machine shop that had a CNC plasma cutter. You would be surprised how reasonable they are price wise. Good luck. Nothing special, any wood working set up will do it as long as youre using a good carbide tip blade. Works on table and chop saws. Never used an abrasive blade but I think it would give an inferior cut vs carbide blade.
