I also use my 10" table saw and it can't tell the difference between wood and alum except the alum chips plug up my dust collector so i can't use it...Bob

Typically, the material to be cut is securely clamped or held in a vise, and the saw is advanced slowly across it. In variants such as the table saw, the saw is fixed and the material to be cut is slowly moved into the saw blade. As each tooth in the blade strikes the material, it makes a small chip.[9] The teeth guide the chip out of the workpiece, preventing it from binding the blade.

I haven't really put it through testing (yet), I'll update when I do that. For some quick straight cuts in 18ga cold rolled sheet it was fast and easy, clean line with a straight edge. Chips come off hot, fast and furious and go everywhere, so if like me you tend not to think about face and arm protection, this beast will remind you! It's another tool for cutting mostly metal, but I got a couple wood blades for it and does a nice job with that too.

Don't Settle for Less Than the Best Whenever Looking at circular saw metal cutting.

A common claim is for a little-known sailmaker named Samuel Miller of Southampton, England who obtained a patent in 1777 for a saw windmill.[2] However the specification for this only mentions the form of the saw incidentally, probably indicating that it was not his invention.

I've done a lot of metal work and strongly recommend an angle grinder with a cutting disk. It is fast, safe and will cut fairly straight without too much trouble. I use air shears for sheet metal usually but then you would need a compressor et al. I still have my first angle grinder (dewalt) and continue to use it. The saw can be designed for the blade to mount directly to the motor's driveshaft known colloquially as a sidewinder, or be driven indirectly by a perpendicularly mounted motor via worm gears, garnering considerably higher torque called a worm-drive saw. Nothing special, any wood working set up will do it as long as youre using a good carbide tip blade. Works on table and chop saws. Never used an abrasive blade but I think it would give an inferior cut vs carbide blade.

OK, I am looking for a best answer here. Yes, you can cut metal with a hand held skill saw. You want a fine carbine tooth blade if posible and a regular saw blade will not work. Use atleast a 24 tooth but a 40 tooth is best. That is for a 7 1/4" saw. We have worked very closely with Kinkelder and Roentgen to continue developing circular saw blades and band saw blades to increase production rates without compromising on blade life and if we must say so ourselves very successfully. One wood-cutting circular saw which may be of note in this discussion is the Ridgid Gen5x brushless cordless circular saw. It uses a 7-1/43 blade, and has a relatively slow no-load speed of 3800 RPM, well within the rare range of various commercially available metal-cutting blades. I personally use the Evolution RAGE 7-1/43 blade, and it works just as well as it seems to in the matching Evolution saw (but you have to use an arbor adapter). HOWEVER. The author noted something rather important in mentioning the open vs closed construction. Proper metal saws have provisions for chip collection, but& Read more
